Throwing Off The Hump

Throwing off the hump is a workshop for potters with intermediate skills. Using the hump technique allows one to make multiple forms from one source of clay. By using the “hump” of clay, you can keep working without having to get up or recenter individual pieces of clay. This way, you can get into a stronger workflow. Throwing off the hump also allows one to make other forms such as lids, bottle necks and spouts. Students will learn how to generate cylinders and bowls. Will also cover basic lids and other forms.

Skill level requirement: Students should be comfortable centering and throwing a 4" cylinder. All materials & tools included. Students will each keep 2 pieces with the workshop, but can add more too. Taught by Desmond Jervis
